Cart Mart is opening its 5th location and, it's going to be the largest golf cart dealer in La Quinta. The San Diego-based golf and electric cart dealer has leased the former Jensen’s Market spot at 78-525 Highway 111, next to LG’s Prime Steakhouse.

“We opened our third location in Rancho Mirage in 2016, and we discovered we had a lot of clientele coming in from the east valley,” Cart Mart CEO Brian Rott said.

“The La Quinta store is really something we wanted to give back to the community. There will be two convenient locations now to serve the entire Coachella Valley,” Rott said.

Largest Golf Cart Dealer La Quinta

The 15,744-square-foot building has been vacant for about nine years and is twice the size of the Cart Mart location in Rancho Mirage, said Heather Sharp, listing agent with Wilson Meade Commercial Real Estate.

Cart Mart is working on the store's design and aims for a grand opening in November, she said.

“This is exciting not only for Cart Mart but filling such a high-profile location that has been vacant for nine years is huge and is great for the city in general,” Sharp said.

La Quinta is in the midst of revisioning its stretch of Highway 111, a critical retail corridor and primary source of its sales tax revenue.

Earlier this year, the city contracted with Rangwala and Associates consulting firm to help develop a plan that will guide how Highway 111 properties can grow and survive an era of ever-increasing Internet sales.

Preliminary plans show a more pedestrian, bicycle and small electric vehicle-friendly corridor with wider sidewalks, while not reducing the number of lanes on Highway 111 — or the speed of traffic.

The Cart Mart location, on the southwest corner of Highway 111 and Washington Street, is a prime spot at what has been tagged as the busiest intersection in the valley.

The City Believes In Cart Mart

“I believe it (Cart Mart) is a great fit for La Quinta, and it aligns with the city’s vision for the future of the corridor,” said Gil Villalpando, assistant to the city manager.

“With our golf courses, street improvements and CV Link coming in, it is a perfect fit for the center of the Coachella Valley,” Villalpando said.

It will be Cart Mart’s fifth store, with locations also in San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles.

It’s the third long-vacant storefront that Sharp said she has recently leased out, including one in Town Center Square in Palm Desert that will soon be home to a True Value Hardware.

Among them is a Caddyshack Golf Cars, which also has a location in Rancho Mirage, moving into the former home of Jule’s Market, on the corner of Calle Tampico and Desert Club Drive, in La Quinta, Sharp said.

Dinner And Golf Carts

In May, it was announced that Floor & Décor would open its first Coachella Valley store in the long-vacant Sam’s Club building in La Quinta.

Floor & Décor will occupy 83,000 square feet of the 138,000 square-foot building at 79-135 Highway 111, next to Walmart in the Centre at La Quinta shopping center.

The remainder of the building will be occupied by a self-storage business.
