Available coverage

View Protection Options

You will see this page during checkout when protection packages are available for your vehicle.

Basic

Essential coverage at the lowest price point. Typically includes a basic extended warranty with powertrain coverage and shorter terms—for example, 3 years / 36,000 miles. Best for budget-conscious buyers who want minimal protection.

Plus

Balanced coverage and the most popular choice. Typically includes a comprehensive extended warranty and GAP insurance with longer terms—for example, 5 years / 60,000 miles. Best for buyers seeking solid protection without the maximum cost.

Premium

Comprehensive protection with all available products. Typically includes maximum extended-warranty coverage, GAP insurance, tire and wheel protection, key replacement, windshield protection and the longest terms—for example, 7 years / 100,000 miles. Best for maximum peace of mind and complete coverage.

No Protection

Declines all additional coverage. No products are added and $0 is added to the purchase. Best for buyers who do not want additional coverage. This option is always available.

Help and answers

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Can I buy protection if I'm paying cash?

If Financing: Products are added to the financed amount, costs are spread over the life of the loan and the monthly-payment impact is displayed.

If Paying Cash: Protection products for cash purchases are coming soon.

Do I have to choose protection?

No. Select “No Protection” to decline all additional coverage. There is no penalty for declining, and the purchase can proceed without protection products. The No Protection option is always available and adds $0 to the purchase amount.

What if I can't decide which tier to choose?

Consider these factors:

  • Budget: How much additional monthly payment are you comfortable with?
  • Risk Tolerance: How much peace of mind do you want?
  • Vehicle Use: How will you use the vehicle? More miles can mean more potential for issues.
  • Vehicle Type: Performance and electric vehicles may benefit from comprehensive coverage.

Popular Choice: The Plus tier is often recommended because it provides balanced coverage—warranty plus GAP—at a reasonable price. Take time to review every tier’s details and available Learn more information.

Can I change my selection before completing my purchase?

Yes. Before finalizing the purchase, you can go back and change the protection selection:

  1. Use the “Back” button
  2. Return to the protection-options page
  3. Select a different tier
  4. Submit the new selection
  5. The order updates with the new amount
  6. New documents are generated when financing

The total purchase amount—or monthly payment when financing—is recalculated using the new selection.

Can I change my selection after completing my purchase?

No. Once the purchase is finalized, the protection selection is locked in.

If Financing: Changing it would require rewriting the entire loan contract, which is typically not possible or practical.

If Paying Cash: Once payment is processed, the protection selection cannot be modified.

Why do different lenders and dealers have different protection options?

Lenders and dealers partner with different warranty and insurance providers, so available products vary:

  • Different lenders and dealers have relationships with different product providers
  • Some lenders offer their own GAP insurance
  • Pricing may vary with lender and dealer partnerships
  • Product availability depends on lender and dealer agreements
  • In multi-dealer networks, the dealer assigned to the order determines which coverage vendor provides the protection plans

The packages shown are specific to the dealer and lender handling the order.

Can I add protection products later?

Generally no. Protection packages are offered during the initial checkout and must be purchased with the vehicle. After the purchase is complete, these specific products typically cannot be added to the order. When financing, they cannot be added to the existing loan.

Alternatives:

  • Purchase an extended warranty separately from a third-party provider
  • Add coverage through an insurance company
  • Contact product providers directly

These aftermarket options may cost more than purchasing coverage during the initial checkout.

How do I know if protection is worth it?

Extended Warranty:

  • How long do you plan to keep the vehicle?
  • Will you exceed the manufacturer-warranty coverage?
  • Can you afford unexpected repair costs?
  • Is this a performance or complex vehicle?

GAP Insurance:

  • Are you financing a large portion of the vehicle price?
  • Did you make a small down payment?
  • Do vehicles in this category depreciate quickly?

Other Products:

  • How expensive are the tires, wheels or keys for the specific vehicle?
  • Do you live in an area with rough roads or extreme weather?
  • Does the vehicle have expensive technology such as ADAS or smart keys?

Protection provides peace of mind and guards against expensive out-of-pocket costs. Compare the potential risk with the monthly-payment increase.

When does my coverage start?

Coverage start dates vary by product:

  • Extended Warranty: Often begins after the manufacturer warranty expires—for example, after 3 years
  • GAP Insurance: Typically begins immediately at purchase
  • Tire & Wheel Protection: Usually begins immediately or at vehicle delivery
  • Key Replacement: Immediate
  • Windshield Protection: Immediate
  • Other Products: Check the specific product terms

Review the coverage certificates for exact start dates and terms.

What if the protection page doesn't load?

Possible Reasons:

  • No protection packages are available for the vehicle
  • A technical issue occurred while fetching products
  • The lender does not offer protection
  • The system timed out

What Happens:

  • You may be taken automatically to document signing
  • Protection is skipped
  • You proceed without protection options

If You Want Protection:

  • Go back and re-accept the financing offer
  • Refresh the page
  • Contact Cart Mart support if the issue continues

You will not be charged for protection when the selection page does not work properly.

What if my selection fails to submit?

If an error appears after selecting “Continue”:

  1. Select “Try Again” to resubmit
  2. Check the internet connection
  3. Go back and reselect the tier
  4. Refresh the page and start again
  5. Contact Cart Mart support if the problem continues

Why It Might Fail:

  • Network connection issue
  • The product became unavailable
  • Pricing changed
  • System timeout
  • The order was already processed

If the selection does not submit successfully, you will not be charged for protection products.

Will protection products affect my interest rate?

No. The APR remains the same whether protection products are added or not.

What Changes:

  • Total loan amount increases by the product cost
  • Monthly payment increases based on the added cost
  • Total amount financed increases

What Stays The Same:

  • APR or interest rate
  • Loan term in months
  • Down-payment requirement

The protection products are added to the amount financed using the existing loan terms.

Can I use any repair shop for warranty claims?

It depends on the specific warranty terms.

Extended Warranty:

  • Some require approved or authorized repair facilities
  • Others allow any licensed repair shop
  • The provider may have a preferred-shop network
  • Check the warranty terms for requirements

Best Practice:

  • Contact the warranty provider before repairs
  • Confirm that the repair shop is approved
  • Obtain pre-authorization for major repairs
  • Follow the claim process to preserve coverage

Using a non-approved shop without authorization may cause a claim to be denied.

What's not covered by these protection products?

Common exclusions across most products include:

Extended Warranty:

  • Normal wear and tear, including brake pads and wiper blades
  • Maintenance items such as oil changes and tire rotations
  • Accident or abuse damage
  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Modifications and aftermarket parts

  • Extended warranties or other products added after purchase
  • Overdue loan payments
  • Charges beyond the loan balance
  • Negative equity carried from a previous vehicle, when excluded

Tire & Wheel:

  • Normal wear and tread wear

  • Cosmetic damage unless it affects function
  • Racing or off-road use when the vehicle type is not covered

All Products:

  • Intentional damage
  • Neglect or lack of maintenance

Review the specific product terms for the complete exclusion list.
